Bambang Subianto was widely known as the former Minister of Finance of Indonesia during the era of President BJ Habibie. He spent his early years as a lecturer at his alma mater, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Indonesia. Apart from teaching, he was also a trainer and researcher at the Management Institute of the Faculty of Economics and later became the Director of LM FEUI.
In 1988, Bambang Subianto moved from education to a government agency, the Ministry of Finance of Indonesia, as a team leader to supervise the insurance industry. His performance was recognised by President BJ Habibie, leading to his appointment as Minister of Finance of Indonesia. His contribution is not limited to such as policy reform to privatise the former Bapepam into PT Bursa Efek Jakarta, formulation of policies leading to the Capital Market Law, establishment of PT Kliriing Deposit and Efek Indonesia Securities Clearing, and also leading the merger of PT Bursa Paralel and PT Bursa Efek Surabaya.
He was the Chairman of Arghajata until his death in 2022, and before that he was a Senior Advisor at Ernst & Young Indonesia (2000-2004). He has also served as a commissioner for private companies and several state-owned enterprises.
